Field trip to ponmudi

On 6 th march 2020 we planned a trip  to ponmudi. At 5.45 a.m we started our journey from our college. At first we reached elephant rehabilitation centre  at 9.30 a.m.The Kottur elephant rehabilitation centre is located near Kappukadu in Thiruvananthapuram district. It is a safe haven for the Asiatic elephant. Elephants are considered the most auspicious animals in Kerala and are present at almost all major occasions and festivals. The rehabilitation centre lies on a 56 hectare large campus which nurtures old and young elephants. Over 30 elephants can be treated here at a given time. The best time to visit is between 08.00 am and 10.00 am when the elephants are being bathed and fed. They are given cooked rice and jaggery in large round mounds. It is an exquisite sight, watching the mahouts feeding these magnificent beasts. Elephant rides are available at these sites.we enjoyed there much time.bamboo rafting experience will offer people a 30-minute ride through the Neyyar river near the Kottur Elephant Rehabilitation Centre. The two bamboo boats which have been deployed can accommodate a maximum of 16 people .Apart from bamboo rafting, the public can also take a ride on the four ‘kutta vanchi’ (bowl boats) and four pedal boats stationed in the area.Tourists are being charged Rs 100 for the ride at Kottur.we enjoyed the ride very much.Thepeppara wild life santuary is a wild life sanctuary near TVM. It consists of the catchment area of the Karamana river, which originates from Chemmunjimottai, the tallest hill within the sanctuary. The sanctuary is named after the Peppara dam, commissioned in 1983 to augment the drinking water supply to TVM city and suburban areas.I liked the place very much. After the lunch at  3p.m we reached kallar is a small town in tvm  Kallar is 45 km from tvm while the town of ponmudi is a further 15 km away. The vamanapuram river flows through the town. Torrential rain can raise the level of the river and sweep away things that come in its way; recently, several dental college students of Trivandrum lost their lives in flash floods. Many varieties of birds and trees also can be seen in and around Kallar.we spent much time there. What a beautiful place was kallar. I really liked the place very much.Meenmutti waterfalls is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) from tvm city. The falls are located near the Neyyar reservoir area. No transportation is available so visitors have to trek 2km through the dense forests to reach the falls. It is very beautiful fall with beautiful surroundings. The Kombaikani fallslie 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) upstream of the Meenmutti Falls on the trek path to Agasthyarkoodam. The way to Meenmutti waterfall from kallar was an adventurous one
I enjoyed very much. After 4.30 p.m we reached ponmudi .Ponmudi peak is a part of the western ghat mountain range that runs parallel to the Arabian sea. Ponmudi is also called Kashmir of Kerala and is a popular honeymoon destination in South India. After 22 hairpins we reached the wonderful destination. The normal temperature of Ponmudi is between 18°C to 25°C.At the evening there was cold .We spent much time in the peaks of ponmudi. It was a wonderful place.I enjoyed a lot. At10 p.m I reached my home.
